A day for a year — shown with real numbers
In astrology, Secondary Progressions is the technique where one day of real time equals one year of life. The day you were born progresses into the year you're living.
But what does that actually compute? What actually changes?
Let's use a concrete example. Suppose you were born on June 15, 1990. Today, for the sake of illustration, let's say it's your 35th birthday — June 15, 2025.
In Secondary Progressions, we take the planetary positions from June 16, 1990 (one day after birth) and treat them as your progressed chart for age 35.
Here is what actually moves:
| Planet | Birth position | Progressed position | Movement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sun | 24° Gemini | 24° 44' Gemini | +44' |
| Moon | 18° Libra | 6° Scorpio | +18° |
| Mercury | 8° Cancer | 10° Cancer | +2° |
| Venus | 22° Leo | 23° Leo | +1° |
| Mars | 3° Libra | 3° 30' Libra | +30' |
| Jupiter | 10° Cancer | 10° 58' Cancer | +58' |
| Saturn | 4° Capricorn | 5° Capricorn | +1° |
Most of the time, nothing dramatic happens. The planets move slightly — a few degrees, sometimes less. A progressed Sun moving 44 arcminutes in a year is a shift of less than two-thirds of a degree.
But occasionally, something does happen:
In the Scalar Flower, we call this the Progressed Field — because it's not just the progressed planets that matter. It's the field they create together.
When you carry your natal chart forward to your current age, you're not just moving twelve points around a circle. You're carrying an entire field — a wave-interference pattern — forward in time.
The Progressed Field shows you not just which planet is active, but what the whole field looks like now. Are the waves reinforcing or canceling? Is the field expanding or contracting? Is there a new node of power that wasn't there when you were born?
Every reading in the Scalar Flower automatically includes your progressed field — the field as it stands at your current age. You don't need to request it separately.
